I'm always motivated by the artists online and last week or week before who knows? I can't keep track of when I post anymore. Anyway, I mentioned about an artist Christy Tomlinson and her new line with Pink Paislee, but I failed to mention her stamp line with Unity Stamps that you can get in her shop, Scarlet Lime. You have got to check these out, I so want them all.

Well, on to other news I have a big announcement tomorrow that I will make sometime in the afternoon or evening. Well, I say it's big, even if it's only in my head. LOL

Girls Gone Crafty is really coming together and I can't be more excited about the new things you will all be getting. So much in store in a short amount of time. With the event only being a little over 5 months away, I have a lot to do. Of course I always find things to distract me and get me off course and this little booth is so distracting - I mean in a good way. I want my next art booth to look like this:

This week has been so busy - I don't think I have actually stayed on the right day yet, but at least I'm still writing here and there and that is a big step in my goal for this year.

I can't tell you how motivated I am to craft ...

The event is just 5 months away and things are really coming together. I have a lot of things going on in the next few months that will keep me very busy. I can't say how exciting it is when people ask you to do something creative for them, whether it's big or small, it is an honor to be thought of when an event is planned, when a class needs to be taught, or just if a gift needs to be made.

I love this little project here with washi tape on the keyboard, so as soon as I get free time, I might be dressing up my laptop with these - not sure my husband will like it, but o well!

This picture had me thinking, this would be a cute picture for a group of pre-teens or teens to do for a party. Like a BFF picture!

Recently I had my little girl's birthday party and it was a Night Owl Pajama Party. I made a lot of the decorations myself with just the things I had in my studio and it hardly cost a thing. I also, with the help of my mom, made her cake. Though looking back now I see plenty of adjustments I could have made, but she loved it all and had not one complaint. The pictures are coming out very fuzzy and weird here, but you get the idea. I made the table to look like a bed with some pink felt as the "blanket" and the "sheet" was some blue & white striped fabric. I printed the pillows on cardstock as well as the headboard. Had I had more time I would have done the heardboard bigger but I thought it made it look whimsy anyway.

A lot of the moms asked about the various garlands and pom-poms I made so I thought I'd explain how to make them here. They are so simple and I enjoyed several movies and caught up on a lot of my favorite shows making them.

So if you search on the internet you'll see hundreds of types of garland, all so beautiful and unique. I chose to do a pom-pom made of tissue, one of tulle, and one of some leftover organza from a flower girl dress that I once converted into a scrapbook album cover (some of you might remember that from when I had the store).

Tissue POM-POM:

Step 1: Fold at least 4 sheets of tissue like you would a fan.

Step 2: Fold in half, tie middle with string long enough to hang later. Cut edge on a curve or to a point, depending on what type of pom-pom you want to make, both look great.

Step 3: Seperate the layers carefully pulling them to the center

Step 4: Hang & Enjoy!

Tulle POM-POM:

Step 1: There is a tool you can actually buy to do this, but I'm too cheap for that. So first I had to trace a plate on cardboard and then trace a smaller plate in the middle of that circle. Do this twice.

Step 2: Cut them out both inner and outer circles. Then snip out about a 2-3" piece, be sure the cuts are the same on both pieces.

Step 3: Tape the string to the center near the inner circle, sandwich the string between the two pieces of cardboard. (be sure the string is at the length you want to hang it with)

Step 4: I used about 4' of tulle ribbon, but for any pom pom you can tear strips of fabric, t-shirts, ribbon cut them at whatever length and just keep wrapping. But I wrapped the 4' of tulle around the two pieces of cardboard, overlapping and creating several layers. If you choose to use other types of material, be sure you at least wrapped the circles 3 times to make a full pom-pom.

Step 5: Push your scissors through the edge between the two pieces of cardboard to cut the material loose, carefully cut all the way around, sandwiching the two pieces together so that it doesn't come apart.

Step 6: Pull the two strings tight and tie in knot, the strip will pull together as you do this to form the pom-pom. Then remove the cardboard. Trim excess pieces if necessary.

Step 7: Stand back & admire your work!

And if you look closely in the pictures above you'll see the various garlands I made. The fabric-tied garland is a favorite of mine and so very easy. Just rip strips of fabric, cut them in 3" inch lengths and tie to string. There are so many ideas on different types of garland - I can't wait to get started on some for GGC!

Wacky Wednesday ... a little late with a touch of Transforming Thursday

So like I said these days will be me just blabbering, so continue about your business if you choose not to read it - I won't be offended. Last weekend we went on a little trip to Denham Springs and if you haven't been you need to go. The antique village is chock full of fun stuff - OLD AND NEW.
The company and food was fab-O!!

So I've done my fair share of junkin' and pickin'. And NO I don't mean junkin' up my house, my kids do a better job at that than me nor do I mean pickin' cotton or something.

Pickin' is the art of finding relics of the past. Kind of like a "modern archaelogist" scouring the earth and digging up historical artifacts or just anything that peaks their interest. It might be to collect, it might be to decorate, or it might be for a greater purpose in mind. Much like an archaelogist, you have to be patient, these relics sometimes lie in some of the oddest places and you really have to dig carefully to drag these valuable relics out of obscurity. Being able to tell the difference between the real thing and a knockoff is quite important if you want to collect or sell, but not so much if you are just wanting the look for your home. Paying top dollar might not be in your budget, so sometimes a knockoff might suit you just fine. Which I can tell you if the knockoff is real cheap and I really like it then I don't mind getting it especially if it's just to decorate my home.

Now you might be thinking there are plenty of antique dealers, but that is not what we are talking about here. Pickers might turn around and sell some of their items, they might just collect it much like an antique dealer, but they are really in it for the thrill of the hunt not as a business venture. They have an appreciation for what once worked in the days of rabbit ear TV's or even horse and buggies (if you are lucky).

With the evergrowing popularity of shows like American Pickers, Picker Sisters, and Junk Gypsies it's no wonder this hasn't gotten more attention. Pickers need a designer eye, especially when evaluating potential purchases that are covered in mildew, buried under dust or broken into fragments. They need to be able to either see it for what it was or could be.

A few weeks, okay let's be realistic months back, I had you try to guess what I was making well here it is, kind of like a family communication center. It is a baby crib spring. The great thing about these are they are really not supposed to sell you these cribs because of liability and recalls, so you can get them for free. You'll notice I even made each of my kids a clip to hold important papers when they get home from school, so my table isn't piled with papers and I don't send the wrong kid in crazy socks because I mixed up the schools.

Here I put our address on an old mirror, that yes originally I was going to put it outside for the pizza delivery guy, but on the advice of my BFF I didn't - she said he wouldn't know what that was. He might think it's some code to stay away.

Shucks, sorry Dominos! You'll have to find my home the hard way.

But here were my finds of the day: a washtub I plan to make an ottoman out of, an old hanger for decor, measuring tape that I haven't quite picked a shape for to hang, railroad nails from 1930 (a birthday gift from a friend), rolling pin, lenux bowl, cute ceramic bird, and a fire brick.

Most of these are for decor!

Yes, gals I'm still upset about losing out on my bucket of wood

she refused to sell me.

I stay bitter for awhile - sorry! especially if it's a bucket of wood do you know what I could do with a bucket of wood, really! It burns me up when someone has so much stuff and has it out in their store with no NFS tag or anything and simply tell you it's not for sale - then why might I ask do you have it out if not to sell it.

O what a mess, so

My Brother in Law made this incredible cabin and asked when I go pickin' again to maybe pick up some items to decorate it. Well now how can I say no to my brother in law! Tempting Tuesday ... and an announcement

Yesterday was my birthday and as tempting as cake is I think CHA is even more tempting. I know terrible thing to say when my mother is a baker, but when we went to CHA several years ago I thought I was having creative seizures. So much visually to see my body was in creative overload. CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) is currently in Anaheim, CA as I write this. There are so many tempting products there, it's made it very difficult to highlight just one. I'll try to keep it to bear minimum.

One of the things I've always dreamed of doing was designing my own line of paper and crafts. So it is so inspiring to see so many women taking the LEAP and doing so. The first I will tell you about is Amy Tan aka Amy Tangerine. She has a shirt line that is to die for.

I originally met Amy through Scrap in Style TV, she is an incredibly talented and beautiful gal. Meeting her was fabulous and watching her dance to "Single Ladies" was very entertaining.

Her shirts have graced the bodies of us common folk to celebrities on the red carpet. She is also a very talented scrapbooker and last year came out with her first line of scrap goodness. I absolutely adored that line and used so much of it, I'm having a hard time giving up the scraps that are now dime-sized. This year she's done it again along with American Crafts - it's called Sketchbook.

Now on to the next inspiring crafter who's first line came out this year. Christy Thomlinson. I have yet to meet her, but I imagine she is as sweet as she seems in the many workshop videos I have seen of her.

I came across Christy in a search for mixed media workshops. At the time I was looking for some inspiration and she has given me more than my fair share. Her workshops are fabulous. She sells both products and workshops on her site Scarlet Lime. She is a mixed media artist who now has her own web show as well on My Craft Channel. Here is just a few pieces of her work.

Isn't that beautiful. Now on to her line: She has collaborated with Pink Paislee to create a truly unique line that captures her style to the T. (btw: if someone could tell me why we say that to the T - what does that mean anyway). She has some great stamps and rubs HECK YEAH!! that's what I'm talking about!!

Of course this is not all of it for both of them, but I figured you'll go find it yourself to buy by Friday.

And of course I can't leave out a few of these buggers.

I for one could have used this when my fibromyalgia would flare up, Leisure Arts’ "The Knook makes learning to knit easy with one tool – a new and unique specialized bamboo crochet hook, which replaces a traditional needle. No more dropped stitches with a hook and cord to keep them secure."

Craftwell’s "eBosser is the first automatic and electric embosser/die cutter that handles materials up to letter and A4 sizes. Card makers can now make full-size cards in seconds without having to turn a handle multiple times. The eBosser cuts leather and up to eight layers of fabric at a time and is compatible with most cutting dies and embossing folders."

This had me at "8 layers of fabric", really, really, REALLY!! I can so use that.

Another cool tool that I might be a little afraid of at first, b/c I'm kind of like Spencer from iCarly when it comes to thinks blowing up and catching on fire, but nonetheless... this is positively unique. Yu-Gene Enterprise Company Ltd.’s "USB Power Glue Gun is a product that uses a USB outlet from a computer as a power source for the glue gun, providing safe and steady glue flow for the modern “connected” crafter."

I also have to say this I would use and love every minute of putting together an entire quote or just some plain jane journaling. Prima Marketing Inc.’s "Prima Press is a new “writing” tool that holds individual letter stamps so crafters can build the perfect word for each project, similar to an at-home print shop."

And really I think a revolution should be started with fringe - I see little girl decor in the near future. June Tailor Inc.’s "Fringe In a Flash, Multi-Blade Rotary Cutter provides a fast and easy way to cut fringe for fleece tie blankets, pillows, scarves and more by using innovative rotary cutters with evenly spaced blades that cut three, one-inch-wide fringe strips or four, half-inch-wide fringe strips at a time."

Motivating Monday

YAY it's Monday, really I'm trying to pump that up!! We should all be excited right!! I know Monday's they are manic as the Bangles would say! and we wish it was Sunday, cuz that's my fun day!

So here it is Motivating Monday:

For me if I don't have everything organized around me, my creativity gets a little blocked up. So some of the things I have found that help me to organize my thoughts and creativity is putting it all together in a journal/book of some sort. Smashbooks are all the craze, but if you can't afford all the doodads and books you can create your own one that is simple and unique. I have two of them, one is for my house and another for DIY craft inspiration. Sometimes what I put in it might not always be exactly what I want to do, but it might inspire me to do something else. All my ideas go in one place, so there aren't hundreds of books, mags and pics all over my studio. I simply tear out, print out or write what interest me, inspires me, or is exactly what I always wanted. Here is one that is simply covered with paper, nothing special, but it suits the purpose just fine.

My notebooks are all different, these are ones I made out of record album covers and scrap paper. They are fun, fabulous, and cheap.

I'll go into more detail next week with organizing the inside of each of my crafty notebooks.

Canvas Corp just so happens to make a wonderful design project organizer that I would love to get soon. But until then my little dollar store finds work.

After my thoughts are in order and I have an idea of what I want to do, I can then really get to crackin' on some crafts especially if my studio is in order.

Here are just a few really cool ideas to get things organized, but look for more on boards on Pinterest. Dang Pinterest, is there a 12 step program out for this yet?

It has been quite awhile ... holidays were just fabulous and our trip to Disney World couldn't have been more perfect. I think it's time for a revamp, you might have noticed the new header up top.

Starting next week, I'll be bringing back something we used to do with The Scrap Boutique. Kind of revamping it, but the idea is still the same. We want to be able to inspire you to create daily, if not daily weekly, monthly, heck yearly whatever floats ya' boat! the chairs: bought one from the local thrift store for $3 and the other one was from an estate sale that I worked on.

the lamp was a another thrift store buy along with the the remote control basket, the locker basket a gift from a fellow picker.

the side table drawer was bought from the thrift store for $2 and painted with Annie Sloan's chalk paint (which can I say is awesome with a capital A in bold print, it goes on anything with no sanding or priming)

the coaster only one right now, working on the others is handmade by moi! i will give a tut later this week.

I don't know about all of you, but I so enjoyed the event. What a wonderful group of creative people!!! I felt so inspired by you all that I actually accomplished this while there.

I can't wait til the next one, which quite possibly might be in January. Here are just a few pics if you missed it.

I have more pictures and videos to come, but I promise ladies what happens at GGC, stays at GGC. LOL

I just went through all the surveys and got some really great suggestions. I appreciated all the constructive criticism and have addressed all concerns.

So here are the results of the survey:

Majority wanted the event to be held twice a year, so that is being looked into.
The Artisan Market seemed to be a hit with all of you, I will just need to build up some crafty confidence in a lot of you to have your own booth.
It looks like January and July were the most popular months for the event to be held.
Many of you asked to come earlier on Friday and after talking to the hotel, we do have permission to start earlier.
I apologize again about the music on the Friday night from next door, the hotel has promised me that will not happen again.
I did get a few of you asking about classes being held at this time I will not be adding that to the event, only because it is a really big headache to deal with, but as far as technique breakout sessions I would be all over that. I can show you some really cool tricks and tips and fun stuff creative stuff to do, possibly twice a day kind of like I did for our first GGC, but maybe not so involved.
I also had some ask to bring in stuff on the Thursday night, but that will be our set up night since we will start earlier on Friday and it is easier to set up without any attendees in the room.
We will have a bigger area to scrap in next year, in addition to opening up the event to 75 attendees. This year we had an issue with the tables being placed in the wrong direction so that led to some cramped aisles. I wasn't able to change it due to time constraint.
So I had a bit of confusion on information given out on the event: Some attendees said they never received updates, my only explanation to that might be that it ended up in the junk mail. So please be sure you are adding girlsgonecrafty@gmail.com to your list. Also, I think some might have been confused by the blog. I sent an email way back in July inviting everyone to the event and in it, it explained how to navigate the blog. Sorry about the confusion, here's how to navigate the blog: If you notice to the right, you'll see a column of pictures - if you click on each it gives you info on what to pack, info on the hotel & rooms, faq, policies, vendors, etc. It's kind of just like another page to the blog.
And one last thing ... I had a few ask about buying a bigger space, I do have that option on the registration form and will continue to have it.

Leave the Drama for your Mama:

This year we cut out the drama, okay not all of it -

because I will still be there,

but there are no classes, no contests, no games.

And maybe some of you are thinking -

awww! but I promise you will love the changes.

We have taken the event and made it more personal.

It's all about you and getting to know other creative people as well as reunite with others and just hang out.

Our focus has changed from learning creative things

to finding how creative you already are.

Keeping & Adding:

We will still have goodie bags, a swap table, and doorprizes.

We are keeping the event small and quaint.

So if your friends missed out on signing up this year,

tell them to do so early next year.

We cut back on the vendors and

are now giving you mostly brick-n-mortar stores.

We will also in my booth have an Inspiration corner that you will be able to sit and look at all sorts of inspiration to get those creative juices flowing along with a typewriter for journaling.

There will be a collaborative piece of artwork on display.

This piece will be a collaboration of all of you and

displayed at future events.

We are down to the last 15 spots ... don't wait too long to get your spot for the event. We are just two weeks into open registration and more than halfway sold out.
Also, we now have links up to reserve rooms for the hotel. I know you will enjoy this place!!! Look to your right, register now!!! Remember you can use your paypal account or a credit or debit card. Also, on your right you will see the Location and it will guide you to a page on the hotel. If you notice we have a lot of info on each of the buttons. And contact us if you have any questions.

New info on the hotel to the right, more spots have been selling. And just so you know before you read all the Marriott has to offer. let me tell you they offered us the room block discount of $109-$129 a night. Which is sweet!!!!! So if you call in from Wednesday on mention our event and you will get your wonderful discount. Remember visit out buttons on the right to answer many questions you might have or email me.

UPDATE: Make sure you mention if you have Marriott rewards, also call the hotel directly #985-223-8996 to book a room, mention the event. And don't forget reserve before Friday, June 10th.

With only 25 spots remaining ... I want to mention this, you don't have to have a paypal account to pay ... you can use a credit or debit card. if you submit the form it will take you to paypal, but if you scroll down you'll see where it says DON'T HAVE A PAYPAL ACCOUNT? and then you can enter your credit card or debit card info. if you send a check by mail you must make it out to Michelle Gautreaux and send to 1203 Romy Drive, Lockport, LA 70374 along with registration info, but note this does not guarantee your spot until I get the payment and it clears. I apologize if this causes any inconvenience to anyone, I'm just covering my bases. Thanks so much for understanding.

Ladies you heard it right!!! Girls Gone Crafty is back!!! I know some of you have been hearing talk about it and it's all true. Well maybe not the male strippers part. LOL I really think you are going to like this one though even minus the chippendales. But I can't give away too much information yet. Deets will be posted sometime next week, so keep checking back!!!
